Meet Team-Kitsch

Well, lots has been going on this year.  Amongst many, one of the important happenings has been the addition of 2 team members:  Rebecca and Valentine.

We thought it a good idea to add a new "About us" page to the website.   One thing I must admit:  there is so much more than meets the eye and this page is complete proof of that.

The cookies you see were designed and created just for the making of this page.  It took us 2 full days of baking, decorating and photo shooting.  Then one full day just to put everything in its place, so that our presentation was a little fun and crazy (like we are:-)

So I hope you enjoy what you see here.  For the French and German version, please go to the original homepage and click on the appropriate flag.   Working together with Reb and Val is  so much fun.  There are some days where I get home, facial muscles aching from laughing so hard.  That is exactly how "work" should be like:  fun and passion from beginning to end, despite the crazy hectic pace we sometimes have to endure.

That's just the way the cookie crumbles at the Sugarshack!

Enjoy y'all!

We are a trio of fun gals blessed with CRAZY DNA.

Our mission : to bring cake culture into your lives !

      K-MEN Forever!

Last November, I received an interesting offer to design  some Gingerbread men (G-men) for the local Coop's Xmas campaign.
I was given several themes to work with, each theme represented by the Kitschcakes version of  G-men (renamed: K-MEN:-)

These cookies appeared in shopping malls, parking lots, several newspapers and even in the train station.  They were I must say, pretty perfect and I was so excited when I stumbled across the entire family pictured together, as shown above.  I remember when I made them, they were so time consuming and the deadline gave me no time to really get some decent shots so I am thrilled to share these with you, considering I just discovered this picture 15 minutes ago...lol!

So here they are, Ladies and Gents:

      The Kitsch-Men Family 2012:

      Above:  train station in Biel/Bienne

They were all designed using a choco-Kitsch Cookie recipe (although they were only for show), and all covered in fondant (a mix of light brown and chocolate brown Regalice).

Next step was piping the borders in dark brown colored royal icing (Americolor).  This was the base I used for each and every one.  Then I just cut out fondant elements to "pimp them up", and then using whatever was necessary to make it come to life (luster dusts, metallic edible food paint, and of course, plenty of Bling-Bling!!  Oh YEAHHHHH!!!!!!

Seriously, I really ought to broaden the selection soon (when I get a nanosecond to do so...)  Many different themes come to mind...
I'll keep that a little secret...

      Bis Bald!

      RJB @ The Sugarshack!

Last week, I had the great pleasure to greet a radio journalist from a local radio station called RJB (Radio Jura  Bernois).  She was curious about what goes on at the Sugarshack during workshops.   I invited her to come and take a look.  She took her camera and microphone with and started taking pictures and interviewing the participants who spoke mainly French.
Since every workshops it a total SURPRISE in terms of which language will dominate, (according to who understands what language), I was really praying that there would be at least a couple of people who could communicate in French, since the radio channel is entirely focused on the French-speaking population.

Prayers answered!  Coincidentally, half of the group was French speaking, so she was able to get "audible sound bites"  LOL!
Here are a few pics of what went on that morning:

Above:  the group hard at work and very focused.

The youngest participant:  a very dynamic and determined 11 year-old girl.  She was just amazing, showing plenty of interest and asking questions.  Not a shy bone in her body.

      Above:  A few "quick-fix" embellishments...

And like every time, the "Best of" for the whole world to see!  :-D

      Hair-Do's and Cake Toppers

I have a little secret to share with you all.  For as long as I can remember, I have been OBSESSED with my hair.
This will probably sound completely strange,  but an example of my hair obsession takes me back to when I was attending high school in my teenage years.   You know how nowadays we would never leave the house or go anywhere without our wallet and cell phone?  Well back then I would tag along my round hairbrush with me EVERYWHERE I went.   I would blindly roll it through my flippy hair and then ask my poor friends (for the hundredth time that day) if my hair was okay?

Seriously, it's a miracle that they put up with it!!

Anyway, these past few years have been busy as hell with business and our 3 little children and I find myself always obsessing about my hair, and having less and less time to do anything about it.  I have (in my humble opinion), very nice and  HEALTHY long hair, but 0 time to style it in the morning.  I have been dying and dreaming for "something new, stylish and upbeat-with-minimal-maintenance-involved", but previous hairstylists could never really grasp what I wanted.

"Enough is Enough", said Ms Kitsch, so I went to Miss Déesse (which means Goddess) - -  Now, a few points about Miss D:

      1.  Miss D has, hands down, the most beautiful hair in Switzerland... (not anymore though...hee hee;-)
      2.  PLUS, she'a a hairstylist
      3.  She's a hockey Mom -- her 2 boys play ice hockey (like our oldest son Miles)
      4.   AND she's married to my Ex-Boyfriend!  LOL!
She's a perfect fit!  I liked her from the Get-Go!

I went to Ms D. and told her this:
      1.  I'm sick of my boring hair
      2.  I want a new look
      3.  You can't cut it (did that once--never again!  I swear I will die with long hair down to my bottom!)
      4.  I want to wake up in the morning, spend maximum 60 seconds on my hair and have SUPERSTAR hair, for the rest of the day.
      5.  GO!

So, Ms D took out her magic wand, cried out "Abracadabra" and gave me a Superstar Hairdo!!
Her magic wand looks like this:
And all she did was wrap each strand in this magic wand/straightening iron, to give CURLS that stay curly, day and night until you wash them!  This is what I've been waiting for my whole life!

I was so excited at this new finding that I cannot express this into words.  Nevertheless, I really wanted to thank Ms D for helping me out so I made her a cake!!!

Here is what the top looks like (above).   I always say that the top of a cake is as important as the hair on a woman's head.  It finishes off the look.  You can have super make-up, a super outfit, but if the hairdo is solala...........

Voilà!  Here is the finished piece.  A Purple Ombré Fondant Frills Cake with Gumpaste Roses.  Ms D's hair salon is purple and white, so the cake had to be purple.  I just LOVE LOVE LOVE how the colors turned out in this piece and honestly, I could stare at this cake all day long.  It is splendid!

So, all I wanted to say is MERCI à Ms D for understanding what I wanted.  I love my hair!  I hope you will love your cake just as much!

      A TOUR Inside the Sugarshack...

Well it's almost one full year since Kitschcakes moved into her new Sugarshack.  The place really does feel like home and the well-lit colorful ambiance really is the perfect ingredient for creating the perfect setting for inspiration.

Last week, my Paparazzi husband took his fancy camera and keen eye to the pink location.  Following are photographs of what the Sugarshack looks like.  Above, the obvious view from the outside.

Above, what you would be seeing through the glass window:-)

Above, the classroom (where the party's at!!) :-D

      Above, a few decorative items...

Hope you enjoyed this little tour and that you will find it compelling enough to take the time to come by for a visit.

      Big hugs and Sweet Cheers!
